Volk van Rotterdam! We hebben ons hier verzameld om onze geliefde thuisstad met zijn geweldige gebouwen die tot in de wolken reiken in het zonnetje te zetten!

In het zweet van ons aangezicht hebben we gisteren Rotterdam uit het puin wederopgebouwd, en vandaag kan Rotterdam de vergelijking met de architectuur van onze amerikaanse vrienden niet meer schuwen!

HOERRAAAA! RAAAAHHHH!

 

Ondanks dit zijn wanorde en chaos zijn reeds aan het werk om onze mooie straten en openbare plaatsen te verpesten en angst aan te jagen. Laten we ons gezamenlijk verweren tegen deze vreselijke bedreiging!

In het kader van het zomeroffensief tegen overlast heeft onze organisatie belangrijke vertegenwoordigers van deze bepalende Rotterdamse machten op ons volkspodium uitgenodigd.

 

 

U heft nu de basisdemocratische gelegenheid hier op te reageren met hun persoonlijke vragen, alleen op deze wijze werken we gezamenlijk aan een veiligere, schonere en aangenamere stad.

Manhattan on the Maas: THIS, MY DEAR, IS Something called KUNSTXPRESS. THIS WEEKEND IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT REACTING TO YOUR BUILT ENVIRONMENT.

HEH-HEH. NATURALLY WE HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT.

AFTER ALL, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER ON THIS CITY FOR 62 YEARS

LET ME EXPLAIN- FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT FIGURED IT OUT YET:

I AM "MAY 1940-DIE DEUTSCHE BOMBE"

...AND I AM "MANHATTAN ON THE MAAS".

 

 

MY FIRST JOB IN ROTTERDAM WAS TO DESTROY THE HISTORICAL CENTER...YOU KNOW, ALL THIS MONUMENTS AND OLD BUILDINGS TRAPPED IN THEIR OWN TRADITION. I WIPED OUT ALL THESE POSTCARD-SYMBOLS THAT ONCE REPRESENTED THE IDENTITY OF THE CITY...THE PORT WAS BURNING WELL, TOO.

BUT MY WORK DID NOT END THERE:ONCE ALL THE OLD ARCHITECTURAL RULES WERE OVERCOME, I CONTINUED TO SERVE THE NEED FOR MORE DESTRUCTION...EMPTY SPACE AND REBUILDING BECAME AN OBSESSION HERE...

YOU COULD SAY: I LIBERATED THE CITY FROM OUTDATED LAWS AND OLD-FASHIONED RESTRICTIONS-WHICH OTHER EUROPEAN CITIES ARE STILL STRUGGLING WITH! FORGET BUILDING-HEIGHT LIMITS IN THE CRUSTY CITY-CENTER, GO AHEAD DEMOLISHING CHURCHES! ALL THIS CONSERVATIVE MUMMIES OF CITIES ! FORGET ABOUT NOSTALGIA I ALLOW YOU TO MAP OUT AND OVER WHATEVER YOU LIKE!

 

 

BACK THEN, I DECIDED TO LIBERATE YOU FROM THE POVERTY AND PAIN OF THE OCCUPATION AND BROUGHT YOU CHOCOLATE AND CIGARETTES, FUN AND HAPPINESS.

IN THE SHADOW OF THE SKYLINE, GLIMMERING IN THE SUN, YOU CAN GO FUN-SHOPPING FOR ALL THE PRODUCTS YOU DON'T NEED BUT WANNAHAVE.

Innbetween notes: SOUND: we address the audience (democratic) with questions (for looping, distortion). It is a gradually developing intensification from the "democratic" sound before to the very militaristic-Polizeistaat NAZI sound-noise: 1.(ca.4 min.): interruption of the 2 characters talking and interacting through hard Live-strikes on the drums and annoying live guitar riffs here and there.(supporting recording: Marsch building up, not yet climaxing. Audience response fed to the looper.

 

 

what would you like me to destroy? what should i liberate you from? what shall i destroy? did i miss a target here/somewhere?

do you want a high-rise? where shall we put it? and what will go on inside?

where would you like to have an empty space? Can you think of something I should make space for?

what is your wannahave? is there some product you can't get here, something i should import for you?

What has Rotterdam lost? Is there something missing? What was the greatest loss because of me?

are you happy? are you properly sedated?

Is everything all right here? is there something that needs to be changed with Rotterdam?

Innbetween notes: BLOCK 4. "VEILIG" takes over (time: 10 minutes) the recording picks up the MARSCH-achtig start. But now, it will get really brutal. The "order"-characters Jeroen en Erik also start shouting (GESTAPO-) intimitating rhythmic phrases (like"VEILIG!-HEEL!-SCHOON! SHOW ME YOUR ID! DO NOT MOVE! Also here:first a word, then more and more. They take over (also accoustically). AKTION: ACT01: Manhattan and May 1940 are transformed by the "new order" of veiligheid (safety) and OBEY. With flashlight and face paint,we attack the audience. ACT02: Possessed, we mechanically prepare the noose and present it to the audience. ACT03: disappear sidestage, bring the steel gallows in front of the projection. Culminating with the music, MM and DB hang ourselves. There is a third noose left waiting. YOU.

 

 

But wait! What are these tortured screams?

I can hear the true thoughts of the mass, the people.

I sense a power that is far stronger than any words or questions!
